Kern Rx Return
Kern Rx Return is a safe medication disposal project that provides free receptacles for the disposal of unused, unwanted or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications.
In 2018 9.9 million Americans misused controlled prescription drug and the majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.1 Disposing of unused and expired medications properly prevents misuse and abuse of medication which can lead to addiction. Furthermore, proper disposal protects our environment by keeping possible contaminants out of our soil and groundwater.
Kern Rx Return is an initiative of Drug Free Kern in partnership with Kern Behavioral Health & Recovery Services. To date there are fifteen Kern Rx Return receptacles installed throughout Kern County. All receptacles are available to the public and provided at no cost.
